Before painting, clean the scratches you plan to touch up with alcohol or, as we did here, a spray-on degreaser. In a pinch, glass cleaner will work. You want something that removes contaminants, dries fast, and leaves no residue.

Find a comfortable body position to address the scratch—ideally, one where you can set part of your arm on the vehicle for support as you paint.

Touch-up paint bottles feature a brush attached to the cap. However, you may prefer to use an artist’s brush, which will allow you to make a finer line. After you dip either brush in the paint, wipe most of it off on the lip of the bottle, because the brush will hold more paint than you think.
